| Will my parrot fish starve? When I had these guys in a 10 gallon, I would have to put the food near where the water falls and is pushed down and they begin to eat. but now I have a 55 gallon w/ fluvals and the food will not be pushed down, I put some food in there, but I'm not sure if they're eating. I'm afraid they're going to stave to death. |

| No it wont starve. Most fishes can go as long as 7/8 days without food. Let him/her get used to the new surroundings and he/she will be just fine. Think of you going from a studio apartment to a loft! WOW! |

| Most fish become stressed and stop eating, so they could've been stressed in a small tank like a ten, and with the move to a nice new tank would've put them out of whack. Try sinking pellets, they might be more inclined to have a nibble.
Good luck! |

| Good morning. Your fish will eat when they get hungry Give them time to adapt to their new surroundings. Something you can try, depending on the food you're using, pre-soak their food or hold it under water for a second or two and let it go, it may sink then. I really don't think you have anything to worry about. Keep us posted.

| What if all the other fishes ate everything? And they keep doing it? I'm worried for my parrots. |

| Good morning. Am I correct in thinking you just set up the 55g and moved the fish into it within the past few days? If so, my opinion is they need more time to adapt as mentioned by MizRamzi. Fish can go without food for a week from what I've read.
Have you tried adding garlic juice to their food. It tends to act as a food enhancer.
Best of luck

| The parrrots are very shy. They've always been. Even though they're feared by the other fish they won't go to the surface to eat... They find the left overs if there's any... |

| How long have you had the Simon including the time they were in the 10g? When did you buy them?
Simon, I'm moving this thread to the cichlids, parrots section. I think it will help members that have parrots and yourself more.

| Evening Simon. I have a sneaky feeling your parrots are foraging for food at night when the lights go out. Have you noticed any weight loss? Do they look frail? Are they losing their colors? If not, then don't worry too much. Parrots are very shy for quiet a long time.
One thing you might try is, once you feed your fish, walk away from the tank. See what happens.
Keep us posted,

| I have a feeling your other (more boisterous) fish might outcompete them for food. The flowerhorns are likely going to turn into terrors as they mature, and your parrots might be in some real trouble. Unfortunately, you have way too many high-bioload fish that have the potential to get large, and I would expect some aggression issues as they grow. |

| I've had these guys for almost 3 months now. Their size has gone up quite a bit, but still very shy. My 2 Flowerhorns are so friendly. |

| Hello Simon. Glad to hear the parrots are doing well. I've had my juvie Bloody Parrots since March and they are still shy as well. They come out to feed no problem and I can see them out and about when no one is around. I can coax them to come out of their cave but when someone else walks by they hide again. It just takes them time.
Enjoy them!

| I think they're just like that. They love the ceramic cups I put in the tank. They think it's a Hampster Wheel haha, My flowerhorns are very friendly and hungry. I used my old 10 as a guppy tank and they already had fry. |
