Blood Red Parrot Video 2

The two Bloody Parrots showing a bit of aggression in this video are in the process of mating. I think the male was frustrated because she didn't want to help him clean the nesting area as she should

Great vid.... hehe... Yep.. the lip lock.. ohhh boy! Have you been able to really tell the gender on them or have you had to wait til you see them pair off to tell which is which? Great additions to our Parrot Cichlid page...

Hello Kate! Nice to see your text as always. I've had to wait until they pair off to do the sexing. The female has a really thick papilla and round in shape whereas the male's is thin and pointed. lol that's about the best way that I can describe it.
The two largest ones are the ones mating. He chased her from the right to the left in the video and then return to the right hand corner where they are nesting.

I'm glad you mentioned the Parrot Cichlid Page. For everyone's future reference concerning Blood Red Parrots, click on Fish Forum Home....then scroll down to fresh water fish, click on Cichlids. This will take you to American Cichlids and the Parrot Cichlid is listed there.

lol i love their faces. i noticed you have a heart shaped BP. IS that normal? they have some at my LFS. Are they normal? Your tank is like a flat screen tv with lots of entertainment

Hello Tony...The heart shaped one is called a Love Heart Bloody Parrot. It's my understanding that when it was created the gene for the tail was omitted. It's quiet healthy as you can see. An awesome fish. It swims as well as all the others.
The tank is actually bowed but it's hard to tell in the video.

Yes that's my 155. I get a lot more entertainment from it than the flat screen for certain. I understand what you mean Thanks!

they are really cool

That's very neat... I always wondered about them but never considered getting them because it seemed to be immoral... but them seem very happy and it doesn't seem too bad when you see that they are just happy to be alive... that awesome thanks for the vid link.... very entertaining to watch

Thanks Ace. The Bloody Parrots are a wonderful species. Each one has their own personality and faces too cute to resist

Immoral?? Everyone has their own opinions on the subject of hybrids and I respect them all. My opinion is the fish should not be held accountable. They need love just like any other fish so they might as well get that love and care from me teehee.
Ken
