Juvie Blood Red's

Good morning. My juvie Bloody Parrots have spawned again. It's been exactly 14 days since the last spawn. Inside the terracotta urn is Mom just fanning away and she's keeping hubby out of it. So he sits at the opening like he dares anyone to go in. I only have the two Bloody Parrots and 1 albino cory cat in the tank. I'm really amazed that these little guys are on the ball at such a young age.

Too, my oldest and largest Bloody Parrot in my 155g is ready to go again as well. It's been about 3 weeks or so since his last attempt. Lots of commotion in the tank. I think he just chose his female yesterday. It's the same male but he's chosen a different female this time.

We'll see what mother nature has planned this time
Have a GREAT weekend everyone!

Shawnie! All we can do now is hope. I've never seen fry from Bloody Parrots either. This pair spawning now are the smallest ones I've ever seen or had. I have lots of spare bio media in my 155g and extra filters to start a fry tank if necessary and I'm fortunate enough. From what I've read the parents will take care of the fry for weeks or even months. However, should the parents attempt to spawn while fry are in the same tank, then it's time to remove the fry or take a chance on losing them.
The eggs look viable at this point, but the last spawn looked the same. They turned white after 4 or 5 days then eaten.

Good morning. Well, it looks like all of the eggs have turned white just like last time . However, Mom hasn't started eating them as she did previously. The Mom and Dad are still very protective of them. I did a partial gravel vac yesterday and the couple just went nuts biting the vacuum. The eggs are inside the pot bellied terracotta urn so I couldn't get any pictures. Oh well, maybe next time. I still feel that the couple are just too young and too my pH may be too high for the eggs to develop and then HE may be sterile so......

Hi Aquarist,
sorry to hear the eggs were not viable.. It really is tough to find a fertile male in that group of fish. But.. you can always get a Severum or Midas male and produce your own blood reds!

Hey Aquarist! Sorry the eggs weren't viable.

Don't forget to tell the parents that practice makes perfect

They'll get it right for you eventually.

Please keep us posted.

I have to give the little critters credit for trying. One thing I know for certain I was lucky enough to get a pair and not two males or two females.
