How to transport 20" PACU - Ideas please?

Hi,

I have been having trouble finding a new home for a 20" long 10" deep approx 3" wide LARGE PACU
Have finally found someone to take him HOWEVER...Cant find a container big enough.

Any suggestions please as to how larger fish can be safely moved would be most appreciated!* Its quite urgent that he is moved asap

Thanks in advance.....Lisa

Welcome to FishLore!!!!
He's beautiful!!!! Have you tried the very large Rubbermaid containers. The ones made to store blankets and such in. Hope he's going to a huge tank. Keep us posted.

OMG what a big and beautiful fish !!! Never saw a fish like this. I'd just keep it to myself! Is that the final size or does it grow any bigger than it already is? What size is the tank that this pacu is going to? LOL, it has a face like a whale and it looks like it's smiling I love its eyes!!! I LOVE THIS FISH!

That certainly is a beauty of a fish...how long have you had him and how mush does he eat?...lol

Maybe you could try one of those plastic drums (or barrels) with covers?* How far will he be moving to anyway - if it's long distance, maybe a transport company may have better suggestions.

Buzz, that's a good question: how much must he eat?! LOL

I believe most Pacu are vegetarians. Someone I know has one that loves grapes.

Pacus are omnivores.

Dino just got home from Panama City Beach. He was going to move a couple of pacus to his fish house a while back that were that size. I will try and bring this thread to his attention.

Boxermom I stand corrected. I still never saw them eat anything except fruits and veggies, not even smaller tank mates.
Isabella this gives a little more on feeding and temperment. They truly are gentle giants.

Re: How to transport 20" PACU - Ideas please?

Hi, thanks for all the great compliments....he is absolutely gorgeous...full of personality, i would love to keep him but don't have the room anymore (or funds) reason having to re-home is that his own 7ft tank got damaged + as an emergency i had to move him into my tank with Malawi's.
This could have been a disaster but it was the only option. he has as a result been abit fin nipped (which is main reason he has to go to a more suited home)
i would rather get rid of the Malawi's but 4x3x3 ft tank isn't really big enough. :-(

As for the veggie only comment....i thought this aswell until 2 weeks ago when i managed to get a photo to say otherwise (may be revenge ) photo bit poor + date set up wrong but as u can see thats a fish in his mouth!
usually he eats pellets, lettuce, fish flake like a whale eats krill .... lol

I love that name "Gentle Giant" - it really suits him well! I wish I could have some 300-500 gallon tank and have some oscars, pacus, and all these big and beautiful fish in there. Of course, that's just a dream for me. I really love that pacu!

Re: How to transport 20" PACU - Ideas please?

Aubbermade container is probably the best bet for moving such a large fish.
Another possibility would be the 30 gallon yard buckets with nylon handles they sell at department stores.
