| | Fish Master | If the stool is bloody - you may want to take a sample to your vet to be checked for parasites.
If it is truly a behavior problem where jealousy is involved, you may want to contact your vet about good animal behaviorists in your area.
Is your dauschund neutered/spayed? This may also play a role, as they may be starting to mark territory. |

| | Fish Helper | I am no vet but blood in stool is not a good sign. And since it's been happening for 4 days you should get your dog to a vet clinic asap. I hope your dog will get better, but please, please get him to the doctor. Getting a diagnosys on a forum will take far too long and I'm affraid you're risking his life . |

| | Fish Addict | the blood just started today, sorry for the prevous post, i stated it wrong, im a little nervous, and i dont have the cash right now for an emergency visit to the vet, the vet we have here are so stupid, they only work four days a week any visit on an off day is 85 dollars right off the bat, so the only option was asking someone now and mabey seeing if the theorys of both would be the same tomarrow when i see if there any vet at work....
he is not neutered/spayed, we have had him for 1 1/2 years |

| | Fish Bum | I'm so sorry about your puppy. Has he had his immunizations? Bloody diarrhea can be Parvo. Usually young puppies get it, but other dogs can get it as well. How is he acting? Is he eating? |

| | Fish Addict | yes he is still eating playing, running, fetching, everything he usually does, my wife just brought the baby home and he pooped, no blood, in the kitchen right beside my wife.
EDIT: and yes he has had his shots |

| | Fish Bum | Poor guy. He knows something different is going on. I hope that is all it is and that you can make him feel comfortable with the baby. Congratulations, by the way. |

| | Moderator | Hello Jwok. So sorry to hear your pup isn't feeling up to par. I wish I had an answer for you. I do recommend having him neutered if you have no plans for breeding. He'll mark his territory over your entire house if not.
Best wishes. I hope he's going to be ok.
Congrats on the new baby!

| | Moderator | Is he especially attached to your wife? Dachsund are notorious for being one person dogs. He needs to be able to sniff the baby and have some time of his own with the person he is most attached to. Try not to let him get into situations where he will get yelled at in relation to the baby. He's just not sure and his house has been turned upside down. I second the neutering idea but I would wait a couple of weeks if possible so he doesn't relate the discomfort of surgery with the baby coming home.
Lots of praise for good things are needed right now. Just some ideas from my dachsund to yours

| | Fish Keeper | When is the baby coming? If I may suggest something a friend of mine did a few years ago and I think a wonderful idea:
go get a life like baby (toy) same size and carry it around the house like you will your new coming baby. put it in whatever the new baby will be sleeping in, do everything ALL day like you will with and for the new realy baby coming, it will help your pooch in teh long run! |

When I switched my cats from Iams to a better food, their systems weren't used to how rich the food was (Iams is mostly grain, their new stuff is mostly meat), and they got sick. One of them ended up with bloody diarrhea. I took her to the vet, and the vet said it wasn't surprising and wasn't a concern unless it continued that way.
It's possible your dog just got some kind of stomach bug and is getting over it. It's not common for dogs, but it happens. |

I agree with what Butterfly said, I have helped a couple of people who have had a dog with behavioral issues. I think the bloody stool can sometimes be stress, although i would still get a vet to check the dog out to rule out other problems but as long as he is eating, drinking and acting normal i don't see it as an emergency out of normal hours visit, just an appointment for when the vet is next open.
Good luck with the dog and new baby, it will take a couple of weeks of adjustments but with what Butterfly suggested it shouldn't take long for everyone to get into the new life.

| | Fish Keeper | Is he still having diarrhea? If so try giving him a bit of gatorade to make his feces not so runny. |
