My new oto - very active!

Hey guys! I was just wondering if anyone out there has otos that are really active. My one oto (Horace) is quite active. I have had him for almost a week now and he swims all over the tank during the day. He does eat on the plants and glass but it doesn't look like he is affecting the brown algae much. I know he likes algae wafers, he has eaten them for me but if I feed him during the day, I have to guard him with my net and chase the platies away because they will take it from him. He seems healthy and has a cute little chubby tummy but I thought they were more active at night? My cories do sleep during the day but most of the time I observe them being quite active too. Also, I have heard that they (otos) can be alone and I heard that they like to be in groups. Do they really like to school? So should I get one more for him to have a friend?

Re: My new oto - very active!

Otos can tend to be shy, but I'm not sure if they are more active at night. They do prefer to be in groups of at least 3. It sounds like he is very healthy and just needs a couple of friends!

Re: My new oto - very active!

my oto are very active, they swim like crazy all over the place. across the tank up the glass, across the glass. they tire quickly though, because then they just sit around on a leaf or by the heater. they also like to hang onto the glass by my airstone and wiggle in the current.

I agree with Gunnie. He may just want some company. But he seems to be acting normally and he is eating it would seem.

i've found them to be happier and funnier when there's at least 2.
