Oto turning whitish (half body) died a few days later

Dear All,

half (tail half) of my oto's body turned white (not totally but can see obvious discoloration). This condition was for a few days and it is dead. I had another 2 that is healthy. Any of you people seen these before? I am lost in this. Although its death was already obvious but i am trying to check out if there is any way to prevent its death

Regards
Anthony

It is stressed out by the other tank mates. When I bought an SFF he/she did the same thing when I was acclimating him/her.

Hello Ahchong1. Sorry to hear you lost one of your Ottos. Can you tell us how long you had the fish please. Do you know your reading for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate, pH? If you can post them it might be a big help.

im sorry for your loss sounds like the tank isnt old enough for the sensitive ottos ...it still could be cycling as well...ottos do best in tanks that have been cycled for a few months so keep a close eye on your other guys/gals

Omg I had a paridise gourami that did that, it turned out instead of being a pair of gouramis I had two males because one died a couple days later

Hi Ken,

My tank is cycled and running since Jan 2009. So i had stopped the checking of the chemicals... i do check PH once a while it is about 7.0-7.5. Never gone below 7. I had 3 otos. 1 is two months, the other 2 is one month old. All the other fishes like platy, zebra danios and neon tetra is there since Feb - March after cycling. There is also 2nd Gen zebras in there which is also adult size already.... (haha they breed like crazy).

Thanks
Anthony
