Why are they hiding?

Why are they hiding?
I love my otos, but I never get to see them.
All four of them are constantly hiding in the drift wood and every time I show up I can see them flying away in hiding.
Is there something I could do to make them more out there in the open?

Otos are quite ofen always skittish, and ofen hide when you come near.. the only way realy is to take out there hiding place, but the same as the corys just give them time

I'll ask the same question here as your other post.
What other fish are in the tank? Is it cycled?

My ottos are always swimming or latched onto something, they're quite active.

From my experience, ottos mostly come out at night. I have a 55 gallon with 5 ottos and you would never know they were there unless you look at night time. they love to hide on the back of a vertical piece of driftwood and don't do much beyond that. My SAE's are much more active...

My ottos were pretty skittish for the first little bit, but after about a month or so of being in the same aquarium, they seemed to calm down a little bit. Another way to get them out in the open is to put some food out there, like an algae wafer or a slice of cucumber or zucchini.

Fish can take months to get use to their new environment. FYI: All Catfish/plecos come out at night...so matter what you do they will hide most of the time.

My otos and cories were out, swimming around, cleaning up the tank at all hours, and I know other folks here have reported the same of theirs.
Usually, such issues come from something making the fish uncomfortable. This could be poor water quality, or it could be other fish that they find threatening, or it could be something about their surroundings that we humans simply don't understand. Individual personalities of the fish also play a part in this.

My Otos in the 55g are out and about all the time although they do go to the back glass when the tank is approached. The Otos in the 75g are always hidden although I can see where they have been cleaning. Different tanks/different fish
Maybe if you turn the room lights out and feed them at the same time every night they might be out where you could see them while feeding.
