are otos nocturnal??

i noticed that lately my otos have been hiding a lot during the day. i was just wondering if they are nocturnal or if this is normal behavior. i've had them for a few months now and at first they were really active during the day, but now they just hide under rocks. anyone know what's up with them?

i think it really depends on how many their are. when i had 2 of them, i barely ever saw them. they died a while ago, and when my algae went nuts i got 5, and they are always out and playing. my old ones never did this

how many do u have and what size tank?

( suggest u fill out the "aquarium info" thing under "my settings". this really helps people answer your questions)

i have two and they are nocturnal. they hide one behind the heater and the other in the java moss. then in the morning i notice most of the algy on the glass is gone and i can see their little bite marks in the spots they have missed.

My 3 are more active in the evenings. Especially when their tank light goes out.

The two in my 10 gal are mildly active during the day and more active at night from what I've seen.

The four in the my planted tank bustle around all the time, night or day. One is particularly busy, and he gets the others going.

It sounds like your otos are stressed out and hiding from other fish in your tank. IMO your tank looks like its a little overstocked and maybe the otos are nervous of the other fish that share the tank with them? My otos were very active during the day and never hid. When fish tend to hide out, and act out of their 'normal' routines, its likely they are scared of another tankmate.
