Well, when I was doing my weekly
water change today, I noticed the front glass was getting a slightly green tint to it, and sure enough, algae! So I went to Petsmart to get an algae cleaner, and they had recently gotten in a new batch of otos -- so I got two.
Adding them pushes my tank into 'overloaded' a bit, but I've read they have a pretty low bioload, and the water is in great shape (thanks in large part to the Penguin filter I switched to last week), so I figure if I keep an eye on things, they'll be fine.
One took off like a kid in a toy store, checking out his (her?) new home. The other spent most of the day just hanging onto the glass, though he (she?) did do some exploring after a while.
I have to agree with what everyone here says -- they're cute!
