Re: ~ Having 2 Otos ~
There haven't been a lot of people that have them breed in their tanks. I believe Armadillo was the last but I could be wrong.
I wouldn't worry too much, usually they are difficult to breed. They are also hard to tell the sex of. In a few months or so when they might not be juvies anymore, you might be able to tell more accurately.
I have three and so far haven't seen them interested in mating. :-)

Re: ~ Having 2 Otos ~
It's definitely hard, like an adoption procedure... however, what I've done before and will have to do in a few months.. is grow out the babies to adult-hood then find a LFS that will take them. Someone gave me 11 guppies 2 months ago. I couldn't keep them all (obviously) so I took 8 of them to Petco (call first) and one of the guys took them for his own aquarium. It's sad.. but at least there is an option!

Re: ~ Having 2 Otos ~
yea, the chances of baby otos with just 2 otos and a betta is about none. Since they don't breed too often in a tank, you probably won't ever see any eggs and Oscar would scarf up any eggs that came along even if they ever did.

Re: ~ Having 2 Otos ~
Hey, do you understand how this whole oto breeding thing works, Dave? It was explained to me at some stage but am confused again. I heard that male/female mate (that intertwining thing they do on leaves), then I've seen the female lay her eggs, but then I heard that the male still had to fertilise the eggs. So:
1/ What's the point in the mating?
2/ Does that mean that the female regularly lays eggs that produce no fry? That are not fertilised?

When they mate the egg(s) are fertilized, and then the female lays them on a leaf. There is no fertilization after laying the eggs.
Cute Oto Miley! Definately very fat.

Re: ~ Having 2 Otos ~
Thanks, 0morrokh. I wonder where I'd heard that the male fertilised them outside of the female.
