Oscar in 50g?

I read that the minimum tank size for an Oscar is 55g. I was wondering if you think 50g would be sufficient? I found a 50g tank for a really good price and I am debating if I should purchase it or not. Thanks!

From what I have read about Oscars, it is important to consider the ability for the fish to move in the tank. So think, could a 30cm (1ft or 12in) Oscar (a) have enough room to swim up and down the tank and (b) have enough room to turn around comfortably. What are the dimensions of the tank?

I think a 55 is too small for a full grown Oscar. I have 2 & had to buy a 150 for them both as adults. For 1 I'd say a minimum size would be 75 gal.

Thanks guys. I'll hold off on getting the 50g and look around for a deal on a larger tank!

Look on craigslist. It may seem weird but I got a 90 gallon with wood stand/canopy for $100. My uncle got a 250 gallon with the works for $250 also! I guarantee you will find a killer deal.

You could keep a very young oscar (less than 4") in a 55 g and let him grow until about 8". When he exceeds 8", he'll need a 75g tank.
