Constipated Oscar

My LPS lady and I have worked out that my 5" Tiger Oscar is constipated. He looks painfully bloated in the gut, he's not eating and he's been sulking on the bottom of the tank for a week now.
I gave him an epsom salt bath in a bucket for 3mins and added some aquarium salt to the tank before he went back in. After that he perked up a little but not to his usual self and it didn't last long.
He's not eating and he won't touch the peas I've been giving.
I don't know how to help him flush out?
Please any Ideas!!!!

I also added cure-all to the tank to cover basics just in case it wasn't constipation.

I can't check parameters at the moment because the water is green from the cure-all

pH is pretty stable (i also checked before the cure-all)

I'm sorry to hear about your Oscar. The only problem with some meds is that they kill off your cycle, so I would keep a close eye on your water parameters from now on.
Are your tank lists correct? If it is, I would be very worried about overstocking effecting your fish.

welcome to fishlore!!
Im also sorry your baby isnt feeling well....
I would get some prime or amquel+ and do DAILY partial water changes with one of those...you need to get the salt out of the tank and water changes are the only way to do so....I would fast him for a few days or even a week...only allowing him to have the peas ..he will eat them eventually if he is able too.....if you have the fish listed in your tank with him, be aware he will eat them when he feels better....what have you been feeding him for a diet? they need veggies and meat regularly...the meds are going to kill the cycle as amanda said so the water changes will help with that also...good luck!

Okay, I fixed up my tank info.
Thanks for the heads up about the meds stuffing up the cycle, I do a regular weekly 40L water change any way but I'll keep a more vigilant eye on it.
I feed my oscars Hikari Cichlid Bio Gold pellets and twice a week they share 1 frozen bloodworm block (I cut it in half).
The rest get Wardley Total Tropical Gourmet Flake Blend.
I put in half a zucchini every other week or so for the other fish in the tank.
2 hikari algea wafers every other night for my pleco.

Even though I haven't seen him eat, how can I fast him having other fish in the tank and he no longer comes up at feed time so I can't offer him the peas they'll just sit on the bottom of the tank and the other fish eventually eat them.

Thanks!!

if he is that bad, id almost make them all fast for a few days...it wont hurt them a bit....if you can target feed him that would be better....im glad the tank isnt as crazy as I thought it was LOL ....but you are still severely overstocked and id up the water changes a bit to a few times a week ..you have a huge bioload for that size tank and the water changes will do awesome for their health overall ....getting the prime or amquel+ is going to be a bonus and will help them with the changes....adding some fresh garlic to the diet will help their immune system and entice them to eat (although most dont need it but with the sick guy, it will help a ton) I hope he recovers!

Hello Girl. Welcome to Fish Lore. I hate to hear that your Oscar is ill. Great info above. Best wishes for a full recovery.
Below is a link concerning Aquarium Fish Constipation that you may find helpful. Best of luck!

Thanks all for the input.
I've never heard of prime or amquel+ but I'll talk to my LPS Lady about that, I use 'API Stress Coat Aquarium Water Conditioner' when I do water changes.
I will fast them all for a day or two.
I have been thinking of making my own food for my oscars that include peas and garlic to try and avoid this from happening again lol
Do you think I could add a couple drops of liquid garlic straight into the tank? And if so how much would you recommend for my sized tank? (260L)

Also, I was told to only put in 3 tablespoons of Aquarium salt in the tank. Is that much still bad?

Thanks again

your best route is going to be go look for it on your own..MOST pet stores might not have it but will INSIST on selling your something else thats "just as good if not better" in their famous sales pitch....those are the only two that will detox nitrites and ammonia..dont let them tell you anything different....stress coat is great for just regular water changes, but not when the tank is still cycling.(because of the meds I feel a mini cycle will happen) ..

oscars and any salt dont mix...at least the experience ive had..all salt does it make a fish overproduce slime coat ...normally that isnt needed and if it is, theres other more natural, non irritating products that can help....

Thank you, I will keep that in mind re the salt!
I only have 3 pet shops accessible to me and I only trust 1 of them but if I can't find the amquel+ my LPS lady will order it in for me without a doubt!

Well I will take all your advice and post back when my Bubbles has pooped (fingers crossed) lol
Thanks again!!!
