oscar + axolotl = what?

what would happen if i purchased an oscar and placed him in with my 23 cm (9 or 10 inch) axolotl? the tank is 55 gallons, heated at 23-25 C (72-76 F). i want to get an oscar that's 6-12 cm (3-5 inch).

also, if keep a nice supply of guppies and mollies, how many a day would keep an oscar going?

I wouldn't mix an Oscar with an Axolotyl. Axolotyls are Coldwater for starters, wheras Oscars really need 26 degrees plus. The Oscar will quickly grow to 10inches plus as well. As to what would happen between them, not sure. I'd hazard a guess that a fully grown Oscar might attack an Axolotyl, which would be unable to defend itself. As for feeding, I would only give live feeders once or twice a week, as they don't really contain many nutrients.

Good advice, Nick.
One bit of clarification on the feeders (which may be a moot point, since I think the discussion hinges on Bad Wolf getting an oscar): The feeders you buy from the store are low in nutrients (as well as high in disease and parasites.) On the other hand, feeders you breed yourself have the potential to be excellent food, as long as you raise them well and feed them well.

Please, don't mix them. The fully grown oscar will probably view the axolotl as food.

Plus, axolotls need foods like earthworms, and since they feed by detecting motion, the worms have to be alive and you have to drop them right in front of the axolotl's face, which would be hard with an oscar in there.

Hi badwolf
The above advice is spot on , they just dont go together .
You could also pull that heater from your axie tank , theres no need for it , even in a Melbourne winter .
