| The best way to deal with something like that is to present the food in such a way that it doesn't encourage them to jump. You could change their food to a slow sinking food, or if they're getting fresh stuff (like bits of fish), use a long pair of tongs to hold it under the water until one of the fish grabs it.
If nothing else, feed them and close the aquarium lid immediately. They still may jump and hurt themselves, but it will be less than if they fall to the kitchen floor.
