Yup, it's true and from what i've read not to uncommon. Everytime i open the lid to my tank and hold the thing of food above it my oscars jumps right up and knocks into the thing of food. While it wasn't a problem before because he just would land straight back in the water (it was kind of funny actually) this last time he fell out of the tank. I got him up and back in the tank in time and he's doing absoloutely fine it is obviously bound to happen again. what can i do to either prevent that or to stop him from jumping out of the tank everytime i hold the food over it?

Not much really. Just try to keep the lid closed and get the food in quickly when you do open it! You may find when he's in a bigger tank he'll stop jumping, mine don't jump when I feed them.

I had a couple that used to do the same *L* I couldn't stop them doing it, i just had to be faster putting the food in.

Mine also managed to crack a glass lid jumping and hitting it when after a fly that landed in the lid...They can be determined

Those Oscars are crazy jumpers. I unfortunately lost 1 a while ago that jumped out over night through a small opening near the filter.
