Is my oscar going to limit me?

I recently purchased a tiger oscar and while i know it's nice and cute now i know they grow to be mean and aggressive. how much is this going to limit my selection in fish that i can add to my tank

Yes it is. Oscars are mean. I have 2 about 5inch in my 75gal and they slaughter ANYTHING that goes in the tank with them except the Common Pleco that lives with them. There are some fish that can be kept with Oscars but the problem is they need to be fish that are too big for the Oscars to eat and tough enough not to get bullied to death, such as Jack Dempseys, Pacus or Arowanas. But to house fish like that you'll need a MASSIVE tank, like 300gal plus.

Nick's right.
Of your current fish, the knife might survive the oscar's attention. The rest of the fish will become food.

On the plus side I see you have a ghost knife. Seeing as they get to 18"+ long you shouldn't have to worry about the oscar eating it. :P

How long until you get your 55 gallon.

Yeah, but in a 55gal you might find the Oscar will attack it anyway, even if it can't eat it. Oscars can be very aggressive if they don't have enough space.

I'm getting it in a week or so. I'm now contemplaiting getting rid of the oscar if it is going to limit me that much.i don't want to have to buy fish the same size as the oscar. i'd like to have a variety (plus if i have to get fish the same size as the oscar i won't be able to have many fish in my tank)

I'd advise it if you want other fish. The Oscar would pretty much fill a 55gal by itself. All you would have room to add would be small fish and they'll just get eaten.

The only problem is i doubt my LFS will take it back and i don't feel comfortable selling it on a site like aquabid. it's a shame, it's a really great fish but there is now ay i can get a bigger tank then 55gal

Do you know any other people with a big tank that might want it?

I dont know where you bought your Oscar, but most LFS will take back fish. How about if you tell them that all you have is a ten gallon tank and the Oscar will be too big for it. Hopefully they will understand and take it back. Other than that, you are very limited to what you can keep with it and if you try smaller fish with it in the 55, you will end up loosing them.

The Oscar is still a baby at the moment and Fullofit is getting a 55gal in a week or so.
