Just got a new 70 gallon tall with two canister filters. I want to set it up with an Oscar, a Bichir and a Jack Dempsey.

Comments, concerns or questions?

Don't quote me on it, but I think that Oscars and Jack Dempsey's need that amount of water each. Sorry!

thanks for info... after some more research I'm leaning to just the Oscar and maybe throw in some convicts for interest.

I don't know much about cichlids.... are all those cichlids the same kind? (african, american, etc?)

The Oscar is South American and the Convicts are Central. But don't quote me on it...

I believe the water conditions for both fish (oscars and convicts) are similar enough where they should have no problem be kept in the same tank.

My biggest concern with keeping a pair of convicts in the tank with an oscar is whether or not the oscar will be okay when/if the convicts breed.

your 70g is big enough for an oscar and the JD with no problem. But I would not add the African Bicher to your tank as they do grow to about 2ft long.

The tank is 15.5 D x 36" W x 31.5" H.

Your dimensions posted makes your tank about a 76 US gal. tank.

With a 36"x15.5" footprint, I'd probably go with either just one Oscar, or a pair of Dempseys. I'm afraid your going to have some territory problems with an O and a JD in that size tank as they mature. Good Luck.

yeah i realized that after I posted it was a 70 gallon, for some reason I remember buying it as a 70. Sorry for the confusion.

I think I'm going to go with an Oscar and a pair of convicts, and if I have problems drop the convicts into the 125g.
