g'morning Shawnie
I love watching your oscars on videos. Is it Regina that is the gorgeous color? Im wondering is it possible to get baby oscars with a mix of the two colors? That would be pretty cool!
I wish them and you success!

Im afraid i am only limited to what petsmart has for fish around here .
I bet the zebra Oscar has got to look fantastic! Actually now that I think of it, I do think that I saw an oscar mix at PS that was orange and black. It was around halloween lol and thats why I noticed it. It looked pretty cool!
Any link to that zebra Oscar by any chance?

Ohh they are beautiful! I love the markings!
I know which ones are the tiger Oscars, the ones that I saw were truly large blotches of color, either orange or black. One I saw had a total orange body with a black spot covering an eye and a huge black spot on the back and down at the tail fin. These were the only ones that I have seen like that. Very different looking.

the others are very very curious as to what reg and regina are up too...not sure if they want a taste of those eggs or if they want to welcome them LOL ...either way, they are being kept to one side

awwww Shawnie, Regina is being such a good mommy! She is so sweet.
She is watching over her eggs.. lol on the convicts trying to get a peek at all the fuss going on lol.. They are so funny!
I hope the eggs make it. Mom and Pop seem to be very diligent in watching over them.

lol kk, and I'm sorry you lost your eggs, what if you flipped a hanging net upside down and put it over the rock with the eggs, after the parents lost interest??

unfortunately with oscars, you cant put much in a tank that they dont destroy...and their roomates dont allow eggs for too long...not sure what id do with hundreds of oscar babies but they never let me try it anyhoo

Sorry you lost the eggs, but it sounds like it was for the best...although it would be cute to see a bunch of baby oscars, if you had the room

Hi Shawnie
Just checking back to your thread and Im sorry to read that you lost the eggs. But as you said, it really is the best thing. How do the oscars react when they loose the eggs? Do they notice? Go back to the site of the eggs? Poor mom and pop.

actually for 3 days they were in total guard mode...then after that they swam around like there wasnt a thing in there and the convicts n JD's had a meal...im sure if they were in a tank alone, they would be great parents...hows your jd's doing kate?

They are still doing good. They are about 6-7 months old now but still pretty small, probably around 5 inches. Jack is very shy these days and runs and hides whenever I am near. The female is much more social and comes out when she knows Im going to feed them. But other than that... they are pretty quiet for the most part. Since they are in a 29g tank that I am using for a grow out, I cant add any other fish in there, tho I wish I was able to. But then again, they would most likely go after anything I add. I was thinking of adding my cutteri in that tank since it is by itself now that the mate had died. But it may not be a good idea.

I have been trying to take good photos of them, but not having a lot of luck. Its funny, the fish seem to know its a camera and hide when I come near. I really think they do not know what it is, and is scared of the 'box' lol...
I can watch my fish be active and decide to go get the camera, as soon as they see it.... they vanish lol...
But I would love to add some new photos of them... and going to take a few minutes now and see what I can get. I guess i will have to add them to the JD photos section ok?
