Oscar and clown loaches

Will these two be ok in a 90 gallon tank together? We just picked up the tank and still need to cycle it. We were thinking of getting one oscar, and then maybe 3 clown loaches, unless we would need more for them to be really happy. Also would if we go those would there be room for anymore, like a jack or two, or any other cichlid that would work? Thanks guys

Any ideas are welcome.

I don't think it would work. The oscar would see lunch when he looked at the clown loaches.

The clown loaches won't grow as quick as the oscar.

Thanks Anna, I was kind of hoping that if we got the clowns big enough it would be ok...but in the back of my head I was afraid of that, since Oscars grow fast and the clowns slow.

I agree with anna...and also I think the loaches like sand subtrate dont they? not sure on that but I do know sand wont be good for oscars...they are forever re-arranging the gravel and sand in their gills could be deadly....but you could have jack dempsey's, silver dollars, convicts, and congrats on the new find!!!!!!!!! cant wait to see it all setup!!!

Thanks Shawnie, good thing you said something about the sand, we were thinking of going with that in our tank. I'm glad to know it won't be good ahead of time, thanks. If we had more two oscars, would there be room for Jack's too in the 90?

The filters aren't exactly what we wanted, but we plan on getting rena canister in a couple of months. The tank now has a hang on the back Magnum canister and a Emperor 400.

yep you will be fine...the canisters are my best friend...and are you planning on big boys or babys? oscars grow the fastest the first two years then slow down ....wish you lived closer id give you my mating pair...they would ADORE a 90 gal LOL ....

So two with a couple of jacks would work? I just want to make sure we don't over do it. We are going to get babies, we want to watch them grow. Although I fell in love with a little bigger one at the store the other day, he looked like your orange one, what type are those anyway, they had them listed as albino.

Would it be better to add the Jacks before the Oscars?

You know almost everytime I say anything to hubby about oscars on here I bring up yours Thanks for all your help. I wish we were closer, just so I could meet you and your fish babies.

Hubby is rearranging the living room for the new tank, and will be setting it up soon. I'm so happy I can't stop smiling.

actually the orangey guys are called reds...the true albino are mostly white/yellowish with orange eyes...theres tons of different varieties ...theres even a zebra oscar out there.very cool...

you can add either first..just make sure everyones about the same size....90 gals is plenty of room to each have their own space....my jacks are very very submissive but they arent as big as my oscars..and were adding in after at a much smaller size...so they never got agressive or territorial...cant blame them when your roomate is twice your size LOL ....
