Quite possibly the strangest question. Ever.

Ive been wanting to get an oscar for a while now in my 55g, and im nearly there. However, i cant get any tankmates with him. However, I've heard about freshwater fiddler crabs. Would a fiddler crab and an oscar, go well together, especially if I introduce the crab when the oscar is young to discourage him from attacking it?

its not a strange question..the only strange ones are the ones we dont ask

you can have more than just a juvie oscar in your 55 gal...as long as your filtration and maintenace is up to par, you will be ok....but I thought a fidler needed water and land? maybe im thinking of something else..im sure someone will be along that knows more about them

Fiddler crabs require land and BRACKISH water. I wouldn't keep them with an oscar

Pet stores (and even liveaquaria, which saddens me) have been selling fiddlers as "freshwater crabs," because they can live in freshwater for a little while. In the end, though, they get stressed by the lack of salt and die much sooner. Providing them with "land" is easier than it sounds. A piece of driftwood angling up out of the water serves very well. But, as was said, they won't go with oscars because they need brackish water and oscars can't live in brackish water.

Unless they have genetically engineered a freshwater species, fiddler crabs require brackish water. They are fun to watch, but they can and will climb up anything. They like to explore, and they don't like other species in their territory. I put some with my MudSkippers, and that didn't last long. They are small, and mean;sociable to a point, but They don't tolerate their own species for long.

With many different places to leave the water, and tiered areas underwater, they probably would be able to get along a bit better. Basically, the males try to drive each other off, and if there are places the loser can escape to, it probably would work out.
They are very vicious, though. In the wild they are known to tear each others' claws off in their quests for dominance and mates.
