My mother was telling me about the fish my uncle use to keep when she was little. My uncle is the type, he has that whole biker apparance but is a true teddy bear inside and isn't afraid to let you see it. Most of the stories I hear about him, involve some type of animal. I was telling my mother how I'd love to have a nice, large tank, 100-200g and would like to look into something larger.She suggested oscar and jack dempsey. She knows how big these fish can get but said the ones my uncle had - he got them when they were about the size of a half dollar and they enver got much bigger... but everyone is positive they were oscars. I was wondering it if might of been the case that the fish's growth were stunted before my uncle picked them up? He is the kind of guy to have a huge tank, plenty large enough for them to grow to full size.

Everything I've found says they get to over a food in length so maybe its a case of something that looks very similar? Granted, this must of been about 25-35 years ago. Mostly just curious ^^

hmmm stunted growth does happen, but I doubt an oscar would stay the size of a half dollar..juvies arent much bigger....or a jd for that matter...my boys grew up in a 30 gallon and even tho the tank certainly wasnt big enough, they still got to be 6 inches or so before they got their new home....unless there is another breed out there, I doubt it was an oscar ...but one never knows I guess

as far as a 100-200 g tank!! WOWSER! is all I can say...someday for me id love one!!!!!

Saddly I'll be lucky if I can even have a 5g when I move but I'm hoping I can at least have a 20g. I've love to have a few 75g-150g tanks, so much I want but for that to happen, I better get cracking with those books.

I figured they would at least get bigger than that unless they were kept in something the size of a betta cup. My curiosity has found me nothing but I'm still so intrigued, I'm not going to be happy til I figure out exactly what fish he had heh.

THe "mini Oscars" could very well have been Badis (now known as Dario Dario) which can look very like a tiny Oscar!

Ooo, with any luck thats them. They really are so small. Ugh, I wish I had more tanks - I'd love to try and look into getting some of those. Thank you so much ^^
