????'s about my Oscar

Hey I was just wondering if anybody noticed if Oscars become more aggressive at night? I have one Tiger Oscar with a small assortment of smaller heartier fish. The problem is in the morning a fish has gone missing. In the last 3 nights a Cherry Barb and 2 Tiger Barbs have gone missing. I know Oscars can be aggressive but all the fish have adjusted well and within the last 2 weeks have all been very nice towards each other. Any response is welcome

welcome to fishlore!

to start, the tank isnt cycled. these fish are in big trouble if you dont return them to the lfs

oscars need at least 55 gallons to themself. they get VERY BIG over a foot long

your tank is very overstocked. i would deff bring all the fish back, learn about the cycle, cycle the tank, then add fish again

hope this helps please do all the research about fishkeeping before you buy the things. you now owe the fish because your their owner, and i hope the local fish store lets u bring them back!

good luck, and feel free to ask questions on here!

I know Im actually about to buy a 75 gallon tank. I've read about the cycles and learned my lessons i hope. I have a smaller hospital tank that I think can help he redo the tanks. Nething else?

Welcome to Fishlore.

If it's possible to change to a 120g tank instead of a 75g, I'd recommend that and maybe a couple more Oscars if you can find them near the size of yours. They really like the room to swim and have been known to bash their brains in on smaller tanks running into the sides. Eventually, the Oscar is likely to eat the other fish - except the Plecos.

Oscar's will love to eat any kind of small fish, they may attack big fish too, and u need a bigger tank, at least a 55g! they grow up to 1', well my Tiger is usually calm and peaceful at night, he is most active during the evening, sometimes chases the pleco but never harmed it.

Aggressiveness depends on temperature, warmer water means more aggressive fish.
