Creating a breeding pair of oscar

I'd like to create a breeding pair of oscars, ideally two different color forms, starting with 6 young fish and eventually removing the singles- but I've heard that different varieties can be incompatible, that they tend to prefer their own kind. Is this true?

Having several Oscars will just increase your chances of having a male and a female. If you do try this in a small tank, you'll just end up with poor water conditions that you won't be able to control. so u have to have a huge tank.
Most people obtain a male and female Oscar by sheer luck, as they r monomorphic (u can't tell which one is a male or a female) and then one day, notice lots of little white eggs in their tank. If you've got the room, it's nice to have a breeding pair of Oscars. It's lovely to watch them going through the breeding rituals and then laying their eggs.

different varieties r not incompatible, the only difference is their color, their behavior is all the same, but veiltail oscars r a little sensitive because of their long fins.
