Overfeeding?

I have a three inch Tiger Oscar and I got 10 feeder fish for it. I thought It would eat them over a few days but before I went to bed I found seven of them missing. After that my Tiger Oscar seemed sick. Now I am wondering if I overfeed my Oscar will it die??

P.S: My Oscar was back to its normal self the next day.

Overfeeding could lead to illnesses. That sounds like a lot to put in the tank at once.

What kind of feeder fish did you buy? It is not good to just solely feed "feeder fish". There is not enough nutrients in them and will eventually lead to illness. I would HIGHLY suggest getting some cichlid pellets. I feed "Hikari Cichlid Gold" and "Hikari Cichlid Staple" to my oscar and dempsey. They seem to like them. I also feed freeze dried krill as a snack every now and again. Oscars are known to get HITH disease if kept in water of poor quality with a poor diet for any length of time. OH. HITH stands for "Hole in the Head"

"feeder fish" are usually goldfish..I'm assuming, please tell me you aren't feeding him just goldfish. Goldfish aren't that great. If you are buying them, I'd get some minnows, at least, as they have more nutrients. Also, set up a temporary tank for your feeders, and make sure that you feed them for a few days before feeding them to your Oscar.

Some of those "feeders" have a bad habit of dying, due to poor nutrient, parasites, etc. You don't want to introduce a parasite because you fed your fish.

I'm in good with a breeder I see a couple of times a month....He gives me feeders that he won't be breeding further. He takes care of them just like I would, so I know they are healthy when I feed them to my Oscar.
