African Lungfish compatibility.

Hello.

I was wondering, I have a 29 gallon tank with two plecos, one small fire mouth cichlid, one small gold severum and 2 purple spot gobies. I was wondering, if I'd be able to put a lung fish inside the tank?

I don't want to put the lung fish in my pond because it might swim away, and I don't want to spend a lot of money on a fish that will swim away later on, also... I have a feeling my tank could be too small for it, and that the lung fish might eat my fishes which I don't want that to happen.

Definitely a 29gal is a very small tank for such a big fish (some get 48" long).

An eight footer might be the minimum tank length to care for such a big fish once it reaches adulthood. I figure in a medium size pond it stands far better chances to be comfortable, given you take good care of its nutritious needs. Why are you concerned that it might swim away? Is your pond connected to another body of water?

It surely will eat anything that fits in its mouth, and then some.

Yes I am very concerned that it will swim away. My pond is connected with the river. A small part of the river, mini streams that connect into the big pond and then another stream for water to flow out and a bunch of other streams so that they can flow into the garden It's not a big big pond, but big enough for large fishes to swim in.

lung fish are very aggresive fish and will try to eat the other fish.

lungfish are very aggresive fish and will try to eat the other fish. the worrie is that the pleco has barbs like a catfish and could get stuck. I have a 4 foot long, 6" thick lungfish and he eats everything that i put in my tank. if you want to put yours in your pond remember that they come to the surface to breath every once in a while so theres the worrie of birds of prey,ie: egrets. cranes ect. my suggestion is to get a bigger tank and put him in there alone.
