My Dragon Goby FINALLY ARRIVED!!!!!

Hi everyone!

I finally got my dragon goby Although I did a little more research since nobody was able to respond to my previous thread I posted on goby questions, but anyways. I read that they do well in brackish waters but I keep mine in freshwater. They are also slow so they need time to get the food. I hear that they like vegetables but I have flake food only.

I moved ALL of my purple spotted gobies into my other tank with the large green severum. So they are doing well and all I have in my 29 gallon tank atm is 2 plecos (albino, and common) 1 small baby fire mouth cichlid and one small gold severum cichlid. So my blue dragon isn't being pushed around or tackled by my fishes. Although I am concerned about it's health. I don't know if it will eat the flake foods that I feed him or her I'll try my best to post a picture of him/her. It is still very small so I hear they grow up to 15"

Congrats on the new arrival! I don't know how I missed your threads about your dragon goby! Check out the "brackish" section of the freshwater forum. I have a dragon goby and I have loads of helpful information I can share! Btw, dragon gobies are also called Violet Goby.

Ummm, here's some things off the top of my head:

1. It's not just that they do well in brackish water, they need brackish water for their health. They will not survive long in FW. Add about 2 teaspoons of marine salt (not the same as aquarium salt) to 1 gallon of water, so that the SG is 1.005-1.009, ideally at 1.007.

2. They are filter feeders and they need sand substrate to feed. They have huge mouths, but they're kinda like blue whales in that way. They mainly eat frozen blood worms and black worms. I've never heard of them eating vegetables and I'm not sure how they would do it. Occasioinally mine sucks in the mollies' veggie flakes that drift to the bottom, but that's about it. Here's a video of my dragon goby feeding after I dumped a ton of blood worms in :

3. They like a nice big cave to hide in, especially when acclimating to a new tank. Mine has two, the openings of both are partially buried in the sand, which he seems to like. Mine runs about all over the tank nowadays, but it took him a week or two to get comfortable.

4. Dragon gobies have TINY eyes (as you can see lol), so they are not a predator, and they cannot be with aggressive or semi-aggressive fish. Compatible tank mates include red (orange) chromides, mollies, guppies, platys, and possibly bumblebee gobies.

5. Dragon gobies grow huge (about 18 inches)! And they like a large footprint. 55 gallons is a minimum.

I would love to talk gobies with you! Feel free to ask more questions or pm me anytime!

Hello Neji. Sounds like "great" information from Ilovee. You just can't beat first hand experience.
Best wishes!

Thanks.

I still have a very nice healthy tank. I do water changes often so there wouldn't be any type of disease. Also I want to get altum angels too they are super pretty and they are at my local pet store and in the river although i don't want to get them from the river because they are more used to their natural home than in my tank.
