Oscars reach over 12" in length full grown, the width of a 55 gal. is ONLY 12 ". Obviously the Oscar will not be comfortable. It will, in fact, stunt the growth of the Oscar - which is painful & shortens the life of the fish. | But doesnt the jack dempsey grow that size too? |

| | Fish Master | Are you still considering a Oscar for the 55 gal.?
If you say that you can get a large enough tank for a lungfish, why not get the 125 and stock an Oscar & a few other large cichlids? |

| | Fish Master | You sure do love those anime smilies, lol.
I understand, but as much as your father wants an Oscar, as a responsible pet owner he needs to put the need of the animal first before his own wants.
Do you have a LFS that sells these oddball fish? Besides the Oscar & JD, I have never seen any of the other fish readily available. |

I can get virtually any fish I want >> but I dont want to go over 90dollars. Because obviously if it dies x_x 90 bucks down the drain Iam obssessed over fish and all animals but would rather not endanger an animal. But trying to keep parent happy. Though I want the oscar he wants to get it for me because he knows I want it. Yet wont provide a larger quarters for the fish. And yes I do love my anime smiles I see them soo much Its implanted in my brain I type them without noticing them till I revise what I wrote... |

| | Fish Master | Catfish are nocturnal, so if it's activity you want, I'm not sure that a catfish is the way to go. |

I have a pleco and I like it but he hides most of the time.Hes not afraid of me though o-o I like majestic fish as well thats one of the reasons I like larger fish they look majestic. So yeah its supposed to calm me down. I like angel fish but probably will tend to hide much and I think they need to be in groups. |

| | Fish Master | Angels are cichlids, they won't hide a lot. They also do great as singles.
I'm not sure that there's a fish out there that matches all of your criteria. |

Though with angels I wouldnt mind keeping more than one I just dont know if three or four would do fine in a 55. |

| | Fish Addict | you could do some research into pike cichlids, they are aggressive fish, depends on what species you get as to the size and they love live foods. http://www.cichlid-forum.com/article...e_cichlids.php
above is a link to the, but check on the sizes they get depending on the species.

| | Fish Master | Angels are very hard to sex as juvies. Breeding pairs do well together, but you often don't know you have a pair when you are buying the juvies.
We've already been down the Oscar road. All puffers, except dwarf, are brackish water fish. Most going full marine as adults. |
