Dragon Goby info?

I know that most say that dragon gobies are brackish, but this website says that they can be acclimated to FW.
http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/gobyfish/dragon.php

Also, all the stores raise them in FW - could they be kept in FW? They look awesome, and are very docile. I'm interested in one, but am getting cinflicting info.

I think, that like many brackish fish, they can survive in FW, but will be much more healthy in BW

But what about the ones kept in fish stores?
Did they come from BW or hae they always been kept in FW?
B/c I've always seen them in FW tanks.

Probably the same reason stores keep GSPs in FW tanks....

But the GSP's die (went back to wal-mart - none left)
Dragons can survive? Idk, I keep getting mixed info as I do research.

Well, GSPs are high brackish fish, so technically they'd do better in SW. I know of a store where they keep their GSPs in SW, I'd love to go there, but it's very far away from me.
Anyways....
survive? sure. Would I ever do it? No. Brackish fish are called brackish for a reason, because they are healthiest in brackish water.

I have kept two dragon gobies in freshwater only tanks. The first one was around for about 4 months, but then was eaten by a tank mate. >.>

Now I have one at home, and I keep him in a freshwater tank and he has been doing great. He is so much fun to watch at night or in the very early mornings. They don't like light a lot, so during the day, mine will hide out in this little stump in the tank, then at night he goes foraging for food that has fallen into the gravel, and he'll go for a swim, and he is so gorgeous, and he has been growing wonderfully, I've only had him for about 2 and a half months and it seems he's already grown about an inch.

So basically, what I am trying to say is that I have had great success keeping them in freshwater tanks.

Thanks for the info.
I'm really considering it, since I do have some room to play with in my 55 gal.
I just have to find a place that sells healthy ones.

I would definately suggest getting one.
Just don't go to Wal-Mart for them, I was at that place the other day and they had five of them in a little tank, and they looked gross, diseased, and like they were bleeding from their mouths. >.>

I got mine at PetSmart for $7, at the one by my house, they always seem to have a couple in stock.

Here is a picture of mine, I named him Fred Dos, the picture is grainy because I took it on my phone, which has a less-than-amazing camera on it:

I don't like shopping at Petsmart only b/c they seem to have diseased fish most of the time. I'll talk to some of my LFS to see what they suggest also.

I've read that they are sensitive, but mine hasn't died. I have cycled two tanks with him.
And when you say carnivorous, what do you mean? Like will they eat other fish in the tank?
Nope. Mine prefers to eat TetraMin granules, they are about the third the size of a piece of cooked white rice. They also supposedly like brine shrimp. Apparently these fish have very small throats that avoid them eating anything too large, they are also like filter feeders. They will lay at the bottom of the tank and look like they are breathing really heavily or something, but that is them sucking in small particles of food. My old one liked bloodworms, but my new one refuses to eat them.
another thing is they have really poor eyesite, so they locate their food by smell.
Here's a video of my Dragon Goby, my Senegal Bichir pops in for a moment as well:
I recommend turning the sound off, I forgot that my camera recorded sound and I'm listening to some bad music.

Really? I've never gotten a diseased fish from PetSmart or Petco, then again, the ones by my house tend to be very well kept and are only about a year old so far. I would shop at my at my LFS, but the only one that I can drive to because I know the area it is in, is about 20 minutes away and poorly kept with a small selection of fish for way-high prices.

I have a friend that works at Petsmart, and she tells me not to buy anything from there. Petco kills every fish that comes through the door - no exaggeration in the least.

Maybe the ones by your house are baddies. :x
Mine are super, super, super, super nice, very clean, and there's never dead fish.
If they weren't clean, I wouldn't get my fish from there.
But I dunno, I've heard different people talk about bad stores by them, then people like me tend to get lucky and have nice ones, but IDK.

I almost hate to admit I got mine at Walmart when they just arrived. So far mine has been pretty happy living in his cave and although they are super gentle, apparently will defend its meal or hide when disturbed in a corner. My fish used to go into the Gobi's cave like they owned it whenever the Gobi would happen to find and take the algae wafer into his cave but after a few of them got gently bit with those rows of needle teeth they all stay out now. I noticed that while in the cave eating if repeatedly disturbed would quickly mouth a fish on the face once and the fish would come out of the cave spinning and shining its face on plants and sand for a few moments and from that moment would only swim near the entrance.

I MAY see how much my LFS will charge to order one for me. I'm trying to see what my options are as far as other fish for my tanks.

Wow, as i'm sure most of you know, each store is handled different, it doesn't matter if it's a chain (petco/petsmart), it's the employees. I've been to some that are great and some that are terrible. So choose your store wisely. As for the Dragon Goby, they are in no way harmful to other fish, they are peaceful and actually perfer the company of other peaceful fish. Mine is housed with my clown loaches and they all cuddle up together in a couple different hides provided for them. They do have very small throats so brine shrimp are almost too big for them. Mine loves his blood worms and has been doing great. We named him BOB Oh my I left him off my list of fish in the aquarium, oops
