calling all fire eel experts!!!


hi my tank has cycled and has hgad zebra danios, neons and id shark in for 3 weeks now....
i want to add a fire eel in tomorow the local fish store has one for £25 but its only quite small... is this good?
is there naythng i should know besides keeping the top secure/? any ideas about diet , temp would be apprciated..

holy fire eels get big!! and eat live food so Id say a big no no to the eel and neons....not to mention the shark and the eel might have a conflict or two!

Yeah, pretty much any eel-like fish (except kuhli loaches etc) will eat other little fish. I still love em though! They're definitely worth a species-only setup!

ok thanks for the info is there any type of eel like fish that can keep with my 4 cm id sharks and neons?

I'm not sure. The safest one I'd say is the kuhli loaches, but I don't know if the sharks would tolerate them.

I have a rts in my tank and no problems so far. It grazes on algea most of the time. He seems to be doing fine, my mollie is more aggresive than him.

Practically everything that can, will eat Neon tetras.
An eel like fish that would have a hard time catching a Neon would be a Dojo loach, and especially the albino Dojo loach. Especially if you got them while still young.
