My friend recently inherited a fish tank, and I can't figure out what this eel thing is. Does anyone else know? I haven't seen it in person, only in this picture.

I'm wondering if it's a type of ropefish. If your friend can get a few different pics, that might help IDing.

Hm, well she's moved out for college now, so I don't think she can get any more pics. However, there's other fish in the tank, which I believe are tetras and a platy. Correct me if I'm wrong. It's just driving me nuts that she has them and doesn't even know what they are! Ropefish seems likely for that guy. She's a diehard democrat, so she named it Mccain, which I found humorous, even if I don't share most of her democratic values.
