Disappearing Snail

So I have an apple snail, he's about the size of a ping-pong ball. Very active and fun to watch little guy as he cleans my tank. Well, this morning he was missing. Mt tank is 29g and there are a few places for him to hide but I always find him. Where could he have possibly gone? Do they leave the tank? Could be be buried? His name is J.R., but if I find him it will be Hoodini.

any openings at the top of the tank at all? any fish big enough to eat him? did you check the filtration area? I hope you find him!

I looked at the openings at the top but didnt see any evidence that he got out (trials or water lines), the other fish are all much smaller than him and the filter is covered to prevent anything bigger than a split pea from going in. I will look when I get home again, its just weird.

My guess is "he" was going to lay eggs and left the tank. They commonly climb out of the water to do this.

He turned up the other day. Had a nice scratch on "its" shell. Looks like it got under one of my rocks or something. Weird because there really isnt a good place for it to hide.
