African Butterfly, one or two?

I have one African Butterfly fish. It is a male. Do they get along with other African Butterfly fish or do they prefer to be alone?

They will get along with other butterfly fish - I had an African River set-up at one time - as long as their is a large enough surface - the two males I had essentially ignored each other except a few times at feeding as long as they are similar in size - however, they will be aggressive to any other surface dwelling fish (arowanas, killifish - or small fish that go to the surface to get food.

Well, since I have him in a 20 gallon-tall tank I'd better not overcrowd him. I wish I could get my 55 gallon-long up and running. Right now it is out on the front deck! Then I'd have room for more!

I know people who kept the tank on thier deck with water about 8" below the tank top - large deep tank of course and let thme eat the bugs that fell into the tank or got to close to the waters surface - they are deffinitely not discriminating in what they eat. They are beautiful fish though, and fun to watch them eat, except if you are the meal.

I am greatful that mine isn't a jumper, he couldn't care less. I only have one and he seems very content in there by himself, though my BGKfish likes to go see what he is doing on a regular basis.

I've got two African Butterfly Fish in with A Black Ghost Knifefish and a dozen or so ghost shrimp. I've only got a 15.6G tank but they get along just fine, they don't bother each other at all.

Sarrixx i have the same sized tank as you with 2 BFs and a BGK, i am waiting on my new tank to transfer the Knifefish as it can grow upto 20inchs and 15.6g is no where near big enough, this is something i did not realise untill a few weeks after I brought him.
