Elephant Nose!

My mom surprised me with an Elephant Nose today, which I've never heard of before tonight. If you have not heard of or seen these before it might be worth your time to look them up, they are very cool looking and have fascinating habits. In fact I can't think of which they most resemble (an elephant, hummingbird, dolphin, or sword/dagger...) The fish, like all my others, loves bloodworms and other live worms/larvae. Since I have tons of fish that eat these and the stores prices are quite expensive when feeding 100 + fish, does anyone know how one would approach getting live worms and breeding them? I don't want the worms much larger than the packaged dry bloodworms that fish stores sell. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Bloodworms are the larval stage of the midge fly here is a place that tells how it is done but doesn't explain it very well http://aqualandpetsplus.com/Live%20F...od%20Worms.htm it seems like a lot of work.

WOW!
What a gift! If you can get pics up, I know I'd looove to see it!!

I saw one of those for the first time a couple of months ago. Man, it was the strangest, weirdest, most fascinating fish I think I've ever seen. Don't know where you are at, but it was a reeeeally expensive fish here.

You have one nice Mom!!

I've had one for a good 6 months. She appears to scavage for food for the most part. Typically very shy, she tools around with that little snout of hers and digs through the rocks for little bits of food. She is in a 100 gal community with 30 other fish. I do give her blood worms but not exclusively. Awesome fish.

Cool, im actually going to get one too. unfortunely, the bloodworm is actually not the adult form and therefore cant breed. at that point anyway. try, bonding with your elephant nose. i mean like constantly watching and caring for it. these fish are very smart and it can come to the point where they trust their owner enough to be handheld in the aquarium. so take good care of it!

Elephants are one of the electric fishes. Be careful not to add any other electric fish with it. It's debatable, but most believe that the electric signals can become jammed with multiple fish in a tank. All of my electric fish will eat out of my hand! Try holding a frozen cube very still near it's normal hide out. Took my stubborn knifefish almost a year to figure out I wasn't a predator!
Interesting fact: I know of 3 water purification plants that use elephant noses to keep tabs on water quality. The pulse rate correlates to the clenliness of the water! There's probably more than 3, but I only have so many uncles to tell me these things.
