HELP Sick Tire Track Eel

My Tire Track Eel that we call RK decided to spend the night in the filter and now tonigt he is breathing fast with a wide open mouth. The only new fih is about a 6" Pleco. He has lots of space as he is in an 85gal tank with the pleco and his Frontosa buddy. Could the filter make him sick. Please hel I don't want to loose him.

What are your water tests?

There usually are more wastes in the filter, but it could be more "stress" than anything. If your water paramaters are good 0 for ammonia and nitrite, and nitrate between 5-10, then I would just suggest turning off the lights and seeing if he doesn't feel better in the morning. If the water tests are over what I stated, do a water change. Test again tomorrow and do another if they are still up. Hope he is ok.....

All water parameters are good and I just did a water change. I sure hope he is OK. I wish there was more I could do. I will have a hard time sleeping. My fish are my kids now the my others are grown.

Thanks

He might have been hit by the impellers in the filter and injured himself.
I have no new suggestions, but I will say that some animals will do their best to hide when injured, so this could just be a matter of recuperating.
Still, best to stay on top of water quality, to aid in recovery if nothing else.

my eel pretty much lives in the filter... uve never mentioned what type of filter u have but mine is one that sits in the tank and Sweetheart just swims right in and sits on the bottom. at any point she can go down by the motor n what not but she doesnt.. eels are pretty nifty with their knowledge of hiding safely..

just watch to make sure there are no scratches or cuts.. provide more hiding spots that are really well closed off (its no fun that u cant watch but its just like the filter.. closed off and dark aka safe) and if it worries u too much u could use one of the fine filter medias (water polisher, usually white, thin, and flexible) to cover up the opening where ur eel swims in so it cant get in anymore.
