I don't think i've ever seen anyone on here who owned them except you. Definitely not the everyday fish that you have there.

Re: ropefish

I've seen them here also but I understand they get quite long and need large tanks. I found something really cute while researching rope fish

Re: ropefish

what i have noticed about mine is that they curl up under rocks and in my plants just like snakes. they are in a 4 foot long tank and they are very happy they grew about 3 inches since i got them and they top out @ 18 inches

lol.. itchy mouse finger. they do look like cool little fish, even if Stacy doesn't care for their resemblance to snakes.

Re: ropefish

And yes they do resemble snakes in more ways than one, but hubby thinks they look like worms because when they are competing for food several of them will wrap up in a knot and wrestle for the food. Before we moved we had about 15 black kuhlis and about 10 of the striped kuhlis in the 55G so feeding time was a lot of fun to watch.

Re: ropefish

lol.. maybe i can sneak a couple of kuhlis into the 30g tall. do they really need 3 to be happy?

Re: ropefish

That's what you consistently read (that they are happier in bigger numbers). They definitely buddy up. I think it makes them feel safe or something. We always see them on top of each other when they're resting. They certainly seem to enjoy each other's company.

Oliver looks lonely . Is it new enviroment syndrome ? My lfs said he doesnt need a friend , and he will be fine by himself . I already have to many inches ( when adults ) of fish for my 75 gallon , but I dont want any of them to be lonely . Is it just me , or would he be lonely ? I also got a female silver molly last night to be friends with my male black molly , but they dont seem to be interested in each other . So I am wondering is it my own hang up about them needing a fish like them in the tank .
I am finding out it is very easy to get carried away buying one fish after another , ecspecially since they are so cheap . I saw a dolphin fish ( he was beautimiss ) @ the lfs , he was $50.00 . I really wanted him , but I have to STOP !!!!!!!
LOL LOL

he will be ok by himself, mine took about 3 weeks to come around they are nocturnal so they will hide for the most part. you should be ok to get him another ropefish to hang out with. i have 2 in my tank and they rarely even share the same hole they go there seprate ways, ones male and ones female but i dont think that has anything to do with it.if you dont mined me asking what are you feeding him and when, is he eating, or does he just hide all the time. p.s watch out for M.T.S it will sneak up on you lol.

LOL you arent kidding , I love this . I really enjoy the fish . I hardley sit in my front living room anymore , always in the back living room just watching them . I turn the light off in the room so the Plecos and the Ropefish will come out. It is really cool watching Oliver gliding through the tank .
I just got him last night , my lfs told me to feed him blood worms . I use blood worms occasionally anyway , but I guess I will be feeding them daily now. But my other fish are so greedy I hope he can get some .

turn the lights off before feeding and draw the other fish to the other side of the tank. also try whole krill and chop it into small chunks your Oliver will love it and its neat to watch him gulp it down, put some small neons in there to if you dont mind them disapering now and then.

I think I will get some neons as long as he eats them , but I dont have room for more fish to grow to adults . I also have some ghost shrimp in there , I thought the other fish would have eaten them by now but they move around quite freely in the tank . NO WORRYS. But maybe Oliver will eat them , I didnt get them to be part of the tank .
I ordered some Asian clams from e-Bay about a week ago and still havent got them . I am excited about them .
