My Tiger

Hi guys, Finally the wait is over and i'm now a proud owner of an Oscar! it's a 3" Tiger Oscar, i named it "Tiger", he is aggressive, arrogant, voracious and cute! He eats a lot, he doesnt eat pellets that's why i'm feeding him natural foods, shrimps and small fish mainly, he also eats insects and worms!i bought him last Tuesday, i will post some pics when he is bigger! also bought a common pleco, Tiger sometimes chases it but most of the time they r friends!
Wish Me Luck!

ps..careful on the live fish feeding, if the feeders are from your LFS and arent healthy, hole in the head disease is awful...

Good luck and congrats on being an official Oscar owner. I'd like to be a member of that club someday as well. I'd want two and you need a pretty big tank for that.

Thanks guys, i am still not thinking of getting a tank mate, still trying to understand this single oscar, i think 100g would be a little small for 2 Os and a pleco, and i have heard stories how oscras fight each other and with other species so i don't want to take any risk!

Sorry Shawnie, i made a mistake i edited your post by mistake, i'm very bad at this computer thing, forgot that iam a moderator of my Blog! i hate computers i'm so sorry so here is the answer to your comment, please post it again if possible, i'm posting my answer in your post Sorry

Thanks, so how did u do with your 2 Os? any trouble? or they did just fine? actually i have bitter experiences with other species! used to buy too many fish together and it resulted in fighting and chasing, bad water quality; i am just sick of it so i thoght it is better to have just 1.

Congrats Neville~

Id love to have a 'big' fish tank...
BUT the sad part is that I would have to feed it live fish.. and I just cant do that.. waaaaa.... I know that it is necessary and I am in no way criticizing anyone that has to, I totally understand. My husband would have loved to have put an oscar in the 55 when we first set it up. I had to say no..... He was upset.. he really wanted a tiger oscar as well.

hmmm how did neville's edit turn into a post by me?? LOL thats weird cause I didnt post that...and my kids are 5 years old now and thriving well..NO thanks to my intelligence tho..thank god they are ok...

and kate, we are finding that bloodworms, gut stuffed crickets, krill, etc is more better for them...live feeders arent a must

Thanks kate! u don't have to feed them live fish(guppies) all the time, u can feed them shrimps, small fish from the river, insects, worms etc. U should really get one if possible, they r a great fish to have, really fascinating, i like their majestic swimming style!

thanks Neville and Shawnie for letting me know that they can eat other things. For future references... way in the future. How is a 55g tank for one of them? Is it too small?

Nope its not too small..they recommend one in 55gal..just cant have alot of tank mates..and also if you have any, make sure they are bigger than the oscars mouth ...they arent shy about eating friends lol...

before fishlore, my TWO grew up in a 30 gal..with 2 silver dollars...they all got along and of course, I had a tank wayyyy too small..but they are all still together to this day...they are in a 75 gal and eventually will have to go even bigger...200 gal would be a goal !

Thanks for the info! I would only want to keep one oscar and maybe a few small fish if possible at that point. Well, its something to think about for sure.

The smallest fish that u can keep with Os is Silver Dollar, any smaller and they will be good snacks for Os! in bigger tanks u can keep tinfoils, bala sharks and green severums! However i would keep only 1 Tiger in a 55G! they require extreme care if u want to keep them healthy otherwise Hole in the Head disease is very common among Os!

hey u know guys, Tiger started to dig a whole in the gravel, he takes 1 or 2 gravels and drops them at the corner, he aso plays with an empty snale shell! sometimes chases the pleco around! he is funny!

and he hates plants, i put an artificial plant and Tiger dug it up immediately and started attacking it; so i removed it!
