Neons in smaller groups.

I currently have 3 Neon Tetras that I have had for about a month now. I have considered giving them away, because they need to be in larger groups. (and I am overstocked and do not want any more tetras)

But they seem to be doing exceptionally well, they split up and roam the tank is that normal?

Do any of you have experience keeping neon's or any other tetra in small groups?

IMO 3 neons are fine. They are a schooling fish and look really cool in large groups but I doubt they are suffering because you have 3. They do have contact with each other and sounds like they are doing really well. It is ok if they split up and roam the tank, they a comforable and feel secure.

I also have just 4 neons(space is an issue as I only have a 20g for them)...but id love my dream tank of a nice 55g with a huge school of them! but swim space is an issue for you in a 10g with the danios...id be more concerned with that and not the fact you only have 3...its evident they dont mind the smaller school as they are doing so well.......although the 3 together in a bigger tank, would be much better as you know neons rock though!

ya, i have 4 neons, and they seem happy..... better to keep them in small numbers and happy, then in big schools, and overcrowded... i find them pretty hardy too

I only have four Neons and they seem pretty happy. I see them swim together, hang with the Guppies and venture out alone.
