What are you feeding your Neons???

I'm curious what people are feeding their neons. I know that Neons take in air when they eat at the surface and have trouble swimming. Like the air is trying to pull them up. Usually they are back to normal after a little bit. What foods do they like that don't float at the top. Besides flakes, I have frozen brineshrimp, freeze-dried bloodworms, and algae wafers now. I'm thinking about trying daphnia. I understand it sinks down instead of floating like flakes. I want to switch it up

Hey mr fishy

I use a granular food called tetra prima. Its a red colour tiny pellets that float for a second or two before slowly sinking. The neons usually get to eat it as it falls to bottom. Since i switched to this i find their colour has really improved. also this size tub has lasted me almost a yr. Its 75gram tub.

I use to use flakes before hand. Have not tried any frozen food yet for them. Is it any good?

Good morning. Tip: When you are feeding with flake food if you take a pinch and hold it under water for a second or two the flakes will sink instead of floating around the top. It sounds like you have them on a good variety of foods!
Have a good weekend!

My tetras rarely take food from the top. I pre-soak my flake food in a bit of tank water or vitamins before i put it in the tank. This makes the food sink and the tetras will eat it.

I usually rotate among color and veggie flakes, earthworm flakes, peas, frozen mini bloodworms, and sometimes frozen baby brine shrimp. The tetras don't seem to really like the baby brine shrimp, though..

Hikari makes food specific for smaller fish, I think they are called micro pellets.

Good point Ted! The freeze dried food needs to swell before it goes into the fishes stomach not after.

Thanks for all the replies and good tips. I am going to keep trying new things when it comes to feeding. Thanks Adalantai2 for the link to the tetra granular food. I'll have to check it out. When it comes to the frozen brineshrimp all the fish really like it especially the neons. Theyre the first to snatch it. I cut off a little piece then mix it in a cup of tank water until it's just single brineshrimp floating around then pour them in and they sink fast. One thing I noticed though is frozen brineshrimp aren't that high in protein.
