Our neons are disappearing literally!!!

We have had a bad run...they the ( neon tetra's) kept dying. So we emptyed the 10 litre tank and started again.
We bought 6 on the 1st of July 09 and they have literally disappeared.
We have two left..do they eat each other or do we have a bigger problem..
Help the Neon's are my partners favorite fish...We don't want to give up...

Good morning and Welcome to Fish Lore. If you would be so kind as to fill out your aquarium information it would really help others to help you.

Are there any other fish in the tank? How long has the tank been in operation? Have you checked inside the filter to see if they've been sucked into it?

Hate that you're having problems. The more information you can give us the more likely you'll be able to find the solution

Welcome to Fish Lore.

I'm sorry you're having problems, I know it can be very frustrating.
Along with Aquarists questions, I'd also like to point out that a 10 liter tank isn't big enough for a school of neons. They really should be in at least a 10 gallon tank.

Hi all
I have the same problem.. every day I am missing one neon. Tank is 70 liter.
They not in a filter, no dead bodies been found.
Iast Monday I had 6 neons, plecostomus, prestella tetra-3 and platy-3.
Today only two neons been found alive, I took my Pleco to aqua store( I thought pleco ate them) and trade it for 2 Otto cats, and 2 more platies. Later on I see only one again.. How they can disappear? Can Platy eat them too?

Neons, like Cardinal tetras are very sensitive fish. They are not one of the hardiest fish around. For whatever reason they are dying off, and there can be many reason for this including poor stock from the LFS, and a too fast acclimation period one thing is for sure, once fish die in the tank, the other fish eat them quickly and you would hardly recognize what is left and the filter can pick up the remains or they get pushed under bushes, gravel etc.

i have a 55g planted stocking 8 very large (4 1/2in) angle's,3 bristlenose cat fish,5 large rummynose tetras and had 15 neons now only 9 they got eaten i know why
it's cos i had 5 larger ones and the angles didn't eat them but then but then when we were at my lfs my dad saw a display tank with around 20 neons and brought me 10 more and then when i was at my mums house he forgot to feed them so when the angles got hungry they got the neons but some of them hid with the larger neons
sory bout the long post
