Is it swim bladder disease?

One of my little neons is swimming nose down with his tail straight up. Also he keeps floating to the top like he's filled up with too much air. He has been swimming different for a couple of days now, but now he is completely vertical. I don't see any discoloration, and other then the odd swimming he looks to be just as healthy as the others. He's even eating. I gave him frozen peas and that really didn't do anything. I have no idea what to do and I'm just so frustrated with this. The water is clean btw. ammonia - 0, 6 pH, nitrate-0, nitrite-0. Should I go pick up some antibiotics or continue with the frozen peas?

Oh, and none of the other fish show any problems. Please someone help, it hurts to look at the little guy suffering like that.

I'm sorry your neon isn't doing well.
It might be a good idea to put him in a quarantine tank, not only so he doesn't get picked on, but if he starts to show other symptoms such as discoloration, I'd suspect neon tetra disease. As you probably know, it quite contagious and one of the symptoms is swimming erratically.

dodgers948, if it's something with the swim bladder sometimes feeding bits of thawed frozen shelled peas will help. Peas will sometimes help get the bowels moving.

Well I quarantined him. Although he wasn't getting picked on at all, you are right Lucy, I didn't want to risk infecting the rest of the tank. So now he's swimming in my planted 10gal. He's still swimming odd, but there's no change in color or drop in appetite.

This is almost as odd as the time I had one neon who looked like he had neon tetra disease. He was turning white, but he still ate and swam around like normal. And he lived for a couple of months white and with a zig-zagging spine. And then one day he just disappeared. At least none of the other fish caught it, but it was still really weird. Maybe my tank is possessed. Maybe it just dishes out new diseases on any poor little neon I put in it.

Stupid ghostsesses... that's what I get for living next to a cemetery.

i agree with Lucy. Neon Tetra disease is very contagious. I dont know what spiked it. Was your tank cycled. The pH is perfect. Neons love their pH to be slightly acidic.

i wish i had more advice

He's still very alive. His colors are still vibrant and he is eating... but now he is swimming upside down. Is there anything I can do for him? He doesn't have NTD, it's been over a week and still not one sign. I put him back with the others and no one is even picking on him. What do I do?
