my friends was just wondering if you can have sand instead of gravel in your tank if you have neon tetras?

Neons should be fine with a sand substrate. What other fish does he have?

he only has neon tetras.
one more question do you no wat temp would be most suitable for them and wat pH would be best?

I wouldn't adjust the waters PH. Most fish will adjust to your Ph (unless its extremely low
or high. Just always acclimate new fish slowly by pouring little water in floating bag for an hour.

If its a new tank your friend needs to know what his ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels are. He needs to buy a liquid test kit...API are the preferred one...it will last a very long time.

how big is your friends tank. Make sure that he has a school of six or more. That way they will school PERMANENTLY. (They should). They need a constant temperature and a slightly acidic pH.
