school of 6 neon tetras 1 died

i bought 6 neon tetras march 24 my water is safe 0 ammonia 0 nitrites 10 nitrates 7.6 pH when i got them they where all good but i noticed 1 tetra was always alone while the other 5 where schooling around the left side of the tank he was always all the way to the right and by himself i turn on my light at 12pm and turn it off at 12am i feed them once a day as soon as i turn on my light and they eat for about 2-3 minutes and he was a neon tetra i made sure of it i didn't get him confused with a cardinal besides that my dwarf gourami always goes up to the surface and gasp for air like if he has ammonia poisoning but i constantly test my water i have the API master test kit i read the instructions and i do everything right all the time and i have no ammonia or nitrites last night i saw one neon tetra doing the same thing the dwarf gourami was doing and he was zapping around alot but im not sure if it was the same one the one that died was the loner and he was the smallest out of the group i found him caught on the filter this morning poor thing....the rest of the neons look perfectly fine

Hello. Sorry to hear about your fish loss. Sounds like they may not have been well when you purchased them. If your chemistry is good and you didn't see any signs of parasite or fungus....Have you researched Neon Tetra Disease?

Gouramis are labrynth fish, they breathe from the surface. Thats normal for them.

As for the neon, they can be sensitive.

Often the first thing an owner will notice is that the affected fish no longer school with the others. Eventually swimming becomes more erratic, and it becomes quite obvious that the fish is not well........yup im pretty sure thats what it was but he had no fin rot or fungus am i going to need to buy another neon tetra for the 5 or are they ok for right now

I think I'd wait a bit before I purchased more. At least 2 weeks.
