neons

i have 5 neons in my 28 gallon tank. at first they all stayed together in the back, scared of their new home. but now it seems as they kinda split up a lot. it seems like 3 of them stay together, mainly in the back, but they do cruise around, but the other 2 either stay together or go off on their own, coming back to the school here and there. is this because there's not enough of them, or is this pretty common. once my tank finishes cycling with the safe start, i might get some cardinal tetras to school with them, but i dont know if thats the reason or not.

I have 5 Black Neon Tetras, they break apart, do their own thing and check in then do it all over again. if they get frightend they will school together.

I hope this helps you.

Schooling, a lot of times is a type of self defense.

yeah, they're definitely schoolers but if they feel comfortable they tend to not school quite as tightly. if you move things around or switch them to a new tank or something like that, you'll see them school very tightly for a few days until they get acclimated again

I noticed this happened when I first started with 5 tetras, at first I thought it was because my tank was too big and they got separated and couldn't find each other lol so I added some more and now they school more

im glad i could help. hey if you wanted them to school more tightly, you could upgrade your tank size. (Dont waste money).
