Some tetra's are more active when the lights go out. Have you tried observing them with the lights off?

It's probably just the lighting then. Don't know if theres much you can do about it. How long have you had them?

I dont know why your neons are not swimming around. In that gorgeous tank of theirs why would they hide? You did a fantastic job with the set up btw. Maybe they are just swimming around all the plants and caves and that may be why you hardly see them. They should all get along as species goes, so I dont understand what their problem is.
Sorry to hear it... I know its frustrating when you cant see the fish.

I was thinking moving my rocks towards the front and a few plants as well, see if they will hang out in the front more often.

question about my neons??plz help

I think I read that neons are low light fish, that they like to swim around in shady areas. Why not try a mass of floating plants or put in a floating piece of flat wood to creat a large shadow and see if they school there. Be cautious, though, about reducing water surface for oxygenation by increasing the airstone activity...

I found that my neons started to come out more after my plants grew up to the surface. I think they feel like they can hide more easily when there is cover at the level where they swim. I also found them more active in a tank with lower watts per gallon.
