I am going to replace the full hood on my 55 gallon neon tetra tank.
What kind of lights should I use.
Also:
The tank is in a room where the florence ceiling lights are never turned off. How does that affect fish.

I dont think the room lights would affect the fish

I would go for a darker sort of lighting because neons like shady aqauriums

I agree with Matt,

But, if your lights are powerful, you can grow some val & corkscrew weed that will give your neons lots of shade, but it's really up to you!

Well, neons like quite dark aquariums, but aslong as they have a dark place to retire to they should be fine. Perhaps you could get some rocks, some plants, or like an artificial rock cave which i have in my tank for the neons. (see my album for pics)

My tank has a bright light, but i turn it off sometimes and i have lots of little places for them to go, so they are fine =]
