What's up with my tetra?

ok i had a tetra near the top of my tank (it's three feet tall) and it was swimming head down. it was swimming i'm wondering if i should seperate it.
also how do you tell if they're pregnant? I have 12 of them so I'm just asking.

also could these be eggs?

That is an egg. The pregnant thing, the female will appear much swollen in the belly area. I'm not sure what its doing though.
