can neons jump out of a tank?

i cant find my neon, and unless it died w/o me knowing and my other fish, "got to it first" the only other thing i can think of is that it jumped out. it might be really well hidden sumwhere, but i doubt it. can anyone tell me if it maybe jumped out?

neons

Hi yes they can jump out,but only if you leave lid off and they get a fright. You would notice it on floor, unless you have a cat.mumzy50

well the only space is where the filter is at, theres extra space around it and if it jumped out like that, it would be on the hood or behind the tank. i do have cats so it is a possibility they ate it. its just weird b/c there were no fish remains or anything at all in the tank.

They are small.... there's a good chance it died and you just can't find it in the tank.

i dont think there's much i can do about it now.... but this is the third neon to die!!! i only have 2 left, they look very healthy(a bit chubby) and i dont know when i should replace the ones that died. i've been working the past week or 2 to get the ammonia down(had a huge ammonia spike, went up to 10!!!) and yesterday morn, my platy died after i did a 25% water change too! so. im workin on it. gotta get my tank stable

Don't get any more fish until your ammonia is at zero.

Neons are particularly intolerant of bad water conditions.

I would definitely wait to get any more fish until your ammonia and nitrite levels are at 0. nitrate at less than 20 (i keep mine no more than 10). If I were you, I would be doing lots and lots of water changes (at least 50% a day) until the ammonia comes down.

What are your nitrite results?
