Just wondered if my neons were an anomaly of nature

They are around this same size as fully grown black mollies :|
I never thought much of it until one of my friends commented on it, and sure enough, the ones in the pet shops ive seen so far have been tiny in comparison.

PS: They're about 2 years old now (date from purchase), i dont know if that makes a difference

Are you sure you don't have cardinal tetras? They are very similar to neons, but get much bigger.

Just back from my LFS too and they're being sold as "Jumbo Neon Tetras" :|
May have a word with them about that

Actually, you probably got a good deal! Cardinals are usually much more expensive than the neons.

Neons are only supposed to grow to 1.5" (Cardinals 2"). Aren't Mollies like at least 3"? That would make your Neons HUGE!!
