I have five neons. I noticed this morning that one of them looks like it has some of the red scales from its tail missing. I can't tell if it is a white spot or just coloration or acutally has scales missing. I have two Moliies as well. No one else has anything like it. The one with the weird coloration does not act sick. Can they loose scales when the are playing around nipping at each other? Or do I need to medicate? No ammonia or nitrite. Nitrate is between 0-20. Keep water temp at 78, but did got down to 76 couple of nights ago when we had a small cold front come through.

Its possible that the mollies have done some nipping at the neon..
I would just watch and see who is being the aggressor. Some type of medicated water conditioner, or vita-chem in the tank may help your neon, sounds like its not too bad, but the nipping may continue.
